    Netanyahu fires Gallant as Israel’s wars continue

    Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday night, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. Israel Katz has been offered the position of Defense Minister, as per the announcement.

    Additionally, Netanyahu extended an invitation to United Right chairman MK Gideon Sa’ar to join the coalition, offering him the role of Foreign Minister in place of Katz. “My highest duty as Prime Minister of Israel is to safeguard our nation’s security and lead us to decisive victory,” Netanyahu’s statement read.

    ‘Serious Differences’

    Netanyahu emphasized that “serious differences emerged between Gallant and me regarding the campaign’s management, with disagreements manifesting through statements and actions that conflicted with both government and cabinet decisions.”

    “I made numerous attempts to bridge these gaps, yet they continued to widen. These issues even became public in an unacceptable way, and, worse, were observed by our adversaries, who took advantage,” he explained. Netanyahu praised Katz as his choice for Defense Minister, saying, “Katz has demonstrated his commitment to national security in roles as Foreign Minister, Finance Minister, and Intelligence Minister, and as a key member of the Security Cabinet.”

    “He brings a unique blend of experience and practical skill, earning a reputation as a ‘bulldozer’ with quiet resilience and determined responsibility—all critical qualities for leading this campaign,” Netanyahu added.

    He also highlighted Sa’ar’s extensive experience in government, noting that “his deep understanding of policy and security issues will greatly strengthen our leadership.”

    “Especially during wartime, a complete trust between the Prime Minister and Defense Minister is crucial. Unfortunately, while we shared this trust and achieved much in the campaign’s early stages, over recent months, that trust between myself and Gallant has diminished,” Netanyahu concluded.
